Pregnancy outcomes in Advanced Chronic Kidney Disease

Hemodialysis.com Author Interview: Dr. Zichun Feng PGY3
Medical Resident at Baylor College of Medicine.

Hemodialysis.com: What are the main findings of the study?

Dr. Feng: Severe CKD (eGFR <30ml/min) in pregnancy is associated with increased risks of adverse maternal and fetal outcomes. The incidence of pre-term delivery, small for gestational age, and decline of maternal renal function increased with a decline in eGFR. Women with severe CKD may experience a reduced rate of preeclapsia / eclampsia and preterm delivery with earlier initiation of dialysis.
